Laboratory solution preparation guide

Before you begin
Work in a clean laboratory environment wearing appropriate personal protective equipment. Allow the sealed vial to reach room temperature before opening to prevent condensation inside the vial, which can affect peptide stability.
Choosing a solvent
Most lyophilised peptides dissolve readily in sterile water or bacteriostatic water. For peptides with poor aqueous solubility, a small percentage of acetic acid or DMSO may be required. Follow the product label and any available batch-specific documentation for solvent guidance.
Solution preparation steps
1. Calculate the required solvent volume using our peptide reconstitution calculator. 2. Transfer the calculated solvent volume into the vial using an appropriate calibrated laboratory liquid-transfer device under suitable aseptic conditions. 3. Gently introduce the solvent down the side of the vial — avoid directing the flow straight onto the lyophilised powder. 4. Gently swirl the vial to dissolve. Do not shake vigorously, as this can denature the peptide. 5. Inspect for complete dissolution; if any powder remains, allow the vial to sit for a few minutes and swirl again.
Storage of reconstituted peptide
Reconstituted peptide solutions are generally stable for 24 hours at 2–8°C. For longer storage, aliquot the solution into single-use volumes in sterile vials and store at −20°C. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which degrade peptide integrity. Label each aliquot with the peptide name, batch number, concentration, and date.

From these values it calculates the resulting concentration (mg/mL and µg/mL) and the laboratory solution volume required for the target quantity. The calculator performs mathematical conversions only — it does not recommend quantities or preparation protocols.
Calculator formula
Concentration (mg/mL) = vial amount (mg) ÷ solvent volume (mL). Concentration (µg/mL) = concentration (mg/mL) × 1000. Solution volume (mL) = target quantity (mg) ÷ concentration (mg/mL). For example, a 5 mg vial reconstituted with 2 mL of solvent gives a concentration of 2.5 mg/mL (2500 µg/mL). A target research quantity of 250 mcg (0.25 mg) corresponds to a required solution volume of 0.1 mL (100 µL).
