Introduction
TB-500 is a synthetic peptide representing a fragment of thymosin beta-4 (Tβ4), a naturally occurring 43-amino acid peptide found in virtually all human and animal cells. TB-500 has been studied for its effects on tissue repair, wound healing, and cellular migration.
Mechanism of Action
Thymosin beta-4, and by extension TB-500, acts primarily through:
Actin Sequestration
Tβ4 is the primary G-actin binding protein in cells. By binding to G-actin, it regulates the polymerisation and depolymerisation of the actin cytoskeleton, which is essential for cell migration and tissue repair.
Cell Migration
Through its effects on the actin cytoskeleton, Tβ4 promotes the migration of keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells in vitro.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects
Research suggests Tβ4 may modulate inflammatory signalling, potentially reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
